For the mountain runner, it is the ability to generate submaximal forces for hours on end without a diminution in those forces. For the weightlifter, that quality is their maximal explosive power. However, they are drawing upon very different sport-specific strength qualities to resist and overcome gravity. In both cases, the athlete has to overcome some form of resistance they leverage an ability-their “strength”-to accomplish that load with great efficiency.
